1. WHAT IS TOTAL KNEE PROSTHESIS?
It is a joint corrective surgery that replaces the worn
joint cartilage to remove the deformity, limitation of movement and pain
problems caused by the wear of the knee joint.
2. POSSIBLE CAUSES OF DISEASE
Osteoarthritis (calcification) is the deformation of the
weight bearing joints due to leaning. Calcification starts from cartilage,
affects the bone under the cartilage, the joint capsule and the ligaments
around the joint. In fact, muscles that can not be used due to pain thinning
and hardening occurs. The knee is one of the body's most weight-bearing joints
and is therefore most affected by calcification. The knee joint has three joint
surfaces. Femur (calf bone), tibia (tibia) and patella (knee bone). The tibia
joint with the femur and the femoral patella. There are internal and external
joints between the tibia and femur. Calcification starts from the inner
femorotibial joints and affects other joints. However, usually three joints in
the knee are affected together. Gonarthrosis occurs in middle and advanced
ages. It is more common in women over the age of 50. The disease can also be
seen at an earlier age. Patients are usually overweight. Previous joint
operations, traumas, sports injuries, inflammatory rheumatism and some
congenital disorders are the most important causes.
Pain and stiffness in the joints are the first sign of the
disease. The disease can sometimes progress without symptoms. Sometimes x-rays
can be normal, even though they have symptoms. As the disease progresses, joint
movements are restricted, and it becomes difficult to walk up and down stairs.
Sometimes there is a limp. The joint is distorted and there may be bending of
the legs. Inflammatory swelling may occur in the bones within the joint, behind
the knee and in the front of the joint. In advanced and unhealthy knees,
straightening or bending the knee can be difficult and painful. The patient's
expression, examination and x-rays are usually sufficient for diagnosis.
3. BY AND WHERE TO PROCESS
The surgery will be performed by the orthopedics and
traumatology specialist of our hospital. All operations are performed in the
operating room of our hospital.
4. HOW WAY AND HOW THE PROCEDURE WILL BE CARRIED OUT
The following procedure will be applied to the patient's
knee (s). Surgical removal of the patient joint and replacement with a metal
joint to be inserted into the femur and tibia. This is known as prosthesis. In
most cases bone cement is used to fix the prosthesis to the bones of the tibia
and thigh.

5. ESTIMATION TIME OF THE PROCEDURE:
The operation takes approximately 120 minutes. Time may vary
depending on surgery, anesthesia and patient related factors
6. EXPECTED BENEFITS FROM THE TRANSACTION
More than 90% of patients undergoing total knee prosthesis
have a significant reduction in knee pain and a significant improvement in
daily living activities such as walking and climbing stairs. Significant pain
relief and independent outflow may vary from 4 to 8 weeks, although different
for each patient. After total knee prosthesis, it is not appropriate to run,
spore requiring sprinting and heavy work, such activities will shorten the life
