The field of pneumology deals with a variety of injuries and diseases of the lungs, bronchi and pleura (pleura).
This includes both the prevention (prophylaxis), as well as the research and diagnosis of the responsible specialists. The most common diseases that occur include, for example, pneumonia, tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis and pulmonary embolism.
Even diseases that primarily affect the bronchi are treated by pulmonologists. These counters include bronchial asthma or even acute or chronic bronchitis. Often, both areas (lungs and bronchi) are affected when a disease occurs in this body region. Also cancers such as bronchial carcinomas (colloquially known as lung cancer) fall within the purview of the trained pulmonologists.
